Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be keen to set the record straight, according to a royal expert.
Following 79-year-old Thomas Markle’s bombshell claims that Harry never made any effort to come and meet his future father-in-law
before marrying Meghan, the Sussexes may well feel the need to give their side of the story.
Although the retired television lighting director famously fell out with his daughter following his paparazzi scandal
and subsequent absence from her wedding in 2018, Thomas claims he still does not understand
why she never introduced him to her husband-to-be before the drama.
According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, Prince Harry may shed light on the situation in a future memoir – but he doubts Meghan and her dad will ever be able to patch things up.
Speaking on GB News, Fitzwilliams said: “Before the engagement, it has never been explained why Harry has never met Thomas Markle. That is something that perhaps will be explained in a future memoir.”
Describing the “sad business”, the royal commentator added that the feud between Meghan and her dad is “not going to be resolved”, explaining that he saw little prospect of a reconciliation for Thomas’ 80th birthday. He noted: “The fact that Thomas is appealing to King Charles and so forth is not going to mean anything happens, I’m afraid.”
Last weekend, in an interview with The Daily Mail, Thomas – who turns 80 next month – said he was not expecting any birthday wishes from the Sussexes and revealed he had never met either Prince Archie or Princess Lilibet. He added that he remained perplexed as to why Harry had never made the effort to visit him prior to marrying Meghan.
He said: “Why didn’t Harry ever come to meet me? He has the resources to fly around the world – and does – but why didn’t he come to see me?”
The pensioner went on to claim that – prior to the wedding – people such as Harry and Meghan’s former communications secretary Jason Knauf had been “urging” the Duke to pay his future father-in-law a visit. Thomas added: “What man gets married without meeting his wife’s father?”
The father of three went on to describe himself as being “in the same boat” as King Charles, as both grandfathers lack a relationship with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. He added: “Neither of us deserves the treatment we’ve received.”
It seems that the ongoing rift between Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, and the Sussexes is unlikely to be resolved anytime soon. Despite Thomas’ hopes for reconciliation and understanding, it appears that Prince Harry and Meghan may continue to keep their distance.
According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, the lack of meeting between Harry and Thomas Markle before the wedding remains a mystery. Fitzwilliams suggests that Prince Harry may address this in a potential future memoir, but the chances of a reconciliation between Meghan and her father seem slim.
In a recent interview with The Daily Mail, Thomas Markle expressed his disappointment at not having met his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. He questioned why Prince Harry never took the initiative to visit him before marrying Meghan, despite allegedly being urged to do so by others.
As Thomas Markle approaches his 80th birthday, he seems resigned to the fact that any wishes from the Sussexes are unlikely. He compares his situation to that of King Charles, both grandfathers without a relationship with their grandchildren.
It appears that the family rift runs deep, and the chances of reconciliation remain slim. Follow us for more updates on this ongoing situation and for more insightful content.
