Eamonn Holmes acknowledges feeling ’embarrassed’ and ‘reflective’ amidst his recent health setbacks, made more challenging by ongoing discussions about his divorce from Ruth Langsford.

Eamonn Holmes has admitted he’s been both ‘humiliated’ and ‘humbled’ during his recent health battles after he spoke about his on-going divorce from Ruth Langsford.

The former This Morning presenter has been battling issues with chronic pain for the past few years.

It was after stints in hospital in 2021 that Eamonn discovered his pain was being caused by a dislocated pelvis and a trapped sciatic nerve.

The GB News presenter then underwent surgery in September 2022 to try to help relieve him of pain.

However, he suffered a fall during his recovery, which resulted in him fracturing his shoulder and having to have more surgery.

He is now reliant on walking aids and doesn’t shy away from admitting that things are tough, often sharing updates on social media as well as when he appears on his GB News show.

During his latest appearance on the GB News Breakfast show on Wednesday (July 3).

Eamonn briefly mentioned his own use of carers as he and Ellie Costello spoke about the upcoming General Election on Thursday (July 4).

They were joined by two guests, Polly and Michelle, as they gave their thoughts on those in the running to be the next Prime Minister when talk turned to being ‘working class’. During the conversation, Eamonn said: “I am working class born and bred but I have to admit I’m obviously not in a working class area now but I do mix with working class people but my pay packet means that I am definitely not working class but all my roots are working class.”

He continued: “You can be conservative and working class, you can be liberal democrat and working class and you can be labour and working class. At least you have to know what you are.”

Guest Michelle then said: “I would love to bring Keir Starmer, Rishi Sunak and Nigel Farage out to work with me for a day as a care support worker. They should come out with me for the day and see what I do, see what hours I work. I’m not finishing at 6pm on a Friday afternoon. I’m working 60 hours a week for £12.50 an hour.”

It is then that Eamonn mentioned his own involvement with the care system, saying: “I just want to say what you do. I have been basically disabled for a year and a half or so and I have to have a career to do the smallest simplest things and it’s humiliating and humbling but thank goodness that careers are available.”

It comes after Eamonn was seen at his first awards bash since confirmation of his split from his fellow TV star at the 2024 Tric (Television and Radio Industries Club) Awards last week. He was nominated in the Best News Presenter category, as well as Best News Programme, with him later picking up the latter gong alongside GB News co-host Isabel Webster.

But ahead of the awards ceremony taking place at Grosvenor House in London, Eamonn spoke on the red carpet about his divorce after a 14-year marriage. Last month, their spokesperson said in a statement: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

He said at the fresh event: “I’m not OK. This is not a good time at all.” He then added to the Mirror, who say he was referring to his ex-wife: “It’s too early to say but I hope we can still be friends.” Struggling with chronic back pain which saw him require a high-tech wheelchair at the ceremony, he even admitted feeling as if he is on “borrowed time”, as his father died at the age of 65 from a fatal heart attack in 1991.

The 64-year-old admitted he had considered pulling out of attending as he had been in so much pain. However, his new high tech equipment allowed him to be more comfortable. “I wasn’t going to come, but I’ve got this new chair with all these gadgets,” he said. When GB News Breakfast was named the Best News programme, Eamonn told the audience: “I had an operation a year and a half ago, and two things went wrong so I have two things in my back I don’t want. So I’ll happily accept this.”
