Dua Lipa’s Glastonbury performance sparks debate: Was it lip-syncing or a BBC mishap? Her defiant response leaves audience questioning

Pop star Dua Lipa yesterday defiantly told The Mail on Sunday: ‘I don’t mime’, after fans accused her of lip-synching during her headline Glastonbury set.

It was the 28-year-old’s dream come true to play the world-famous Pyramid stage.

But her performance in front of tens of thousands of fans on Friday was dogged by accusations that was not actually singing on stage.

However, when our reporter caught up with her in the VIP area yesterday, she shrugged off the criticism.

I don’t mime,’ said the Grammy Award-winner as she toasted her headline success with her actor boyfriend Callum Turner, 34, in an exclusive bar at the Worthy Farm festival site.

The pair were seen cuddling up after arriving from their luxury hotel ten miles from Glastonbury.

She was dressed in a white vest top with black skirt and carried a £1,600 satin, crystal-encrusted Prada bag. She paired the look with chunky black boots.

The singer was accused of lip-syncing by those watching coverage of the festival on the BBC on Friday night.

‘Imagine paying all that money to go Glastonbury to stand there and watch Dua Lipa mime the song and not even sing it. How bad,’ one said.

Another wrote online: ‘Dua Lipa delivering a Top of the Pops mime set’.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one wrote: ‘It’s a shame #DuaLipa can’t sing live. Don’t turn up to glasto and mime. Rubbish.’

Another said: ‘Dua Lipa has some decent catchy tunes, but I’m fairly sure she’s lip syncing. Sounds like a live vocal, but just not convinced she’s singing it live “right now”.’

Informed sources say the mime claim is false.

During Ms Lipa’s performance there were numerous large Palestine flags so close to the stage that they were seen both on the big screens at the venue and on the BBC’s coverage.

The singer previously urged world leaders to help de-escalate the crisis in Gaza and Israel.

While she did not directly comment on the war during her performance, which included hit songs such as Levitating, she did appear to run out into the crowd to sing closer to a flag that read ‘Glasto for Palestine’.

Despite accusations of lip-synching during her headline Glastonbury set, pop star Dua Lipa adamantly denied the claims. The 28-year-old singer expressed that she does not mime while celebrating her successful performance with her actor boyfriend, Callum Turner, at an exclusive bar on the festival site.

Clad in a white vest top, black skirt, and a £1,600 crystal-encrusted Prada bag, Dua Lipa seemed unbothered by the criticisms thrown her way. Fans watching the festival coverage on the BBC took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express their doubts about the authenticity of her live performance.

However, sources close to the singer dismissed the lip-syncing accusations as false. During her set, large Palestine flags were visible in the crowd, reflecting Dua Lipa’s previous advocacy for peace in the region. Despite not directly addressing the conflict during her performance, the singer made a subtle statement by performing near a flag that read ‘Glasto for Palestine’.
